Board of Directors

David Sumich - Non-Executive Chairman B.Bus(Hons); HKSFC

David brings to Globe over 10 years experience in the investment banking and corporate finance fields. He worked for Merrill Lynch during the early 90’s where he worked in the International Private Banking division and assisted many small companies through the seed capital stage to ASX listing. More recently, David has worked in the Middle East, including HSBC, advising many resource and energy corporations throughout Middle East and Africa on project finance, mergers & acquisitions and financing solutions. David has also worked in Hong Kong for a venture capitalist and asset management firm and became a member of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. Currently, David is the Executive Chairman of ASX Listed DMC Mining Limited (ASX: DMM) which is developing the Mayoko Iron Ore Project in the Republic of Congo.

Mark Sumich – Managing Director LLB (UWA); MBA (Lon); ASIA

Mark brings a wealth of managerial, financial and legal expertise to Globe, and he has also been a director and senior executive of a number of public and/or ASX-listed companies. Professional advisory experience includes corporate and securities law in the Perth office of Clayton Utz, one of Australia’s largest law firms, corporate finance with PricewaterhouseCoopers and more recently financial consulting to some of Australia’s largest financial services organisations, National Australia Bank and Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Peter van der Borgh - Technical Director FGS; BSc (Hons)

Peter has been involved in the exploration and mining sectors for 20 years, targeting a range of commodities including gold, base-metals and gemstones both nationally and internationally. From mid 1998, as a Research Geologist at the University of Western Australia, Peter spent three years in a team studying the formation and siting of giant ore deposits as part of AMIRA P511, and was a major contributor to the final report. Most recently as an Exploration Manager for Legend Mining, his targeting models produced near-mine and regional discoveries at Gidgee, helping to quadruple the company’s market capitalisation over a 6-month period. Peter left Legend in July 2005 to establish Cortona Resources Limited, where he currently holds the position of Managing Director, and brings a range of conceptual and practical exploration skills to the board of Globe Metals & Mining.

Bruce Franzen – Company Secretary B.Bus; CPA; F.Fin

Bruce is a certified practicing accountant with over sixteen year’s local and international experience in the resources industry. An oil & gas specialist with broad skill sets based around commercial and financial administration, ERP systems, team leadership, project & JV management, contracts & procurement, taxation, corporate governance, and financial reporting. Bruce has substantial experience in financial control related to offshore oil & gas drilling, exploration, and development of large scale capital resource projects. Bruce has worked for large companies such as Woodside Energy Ltd, Inpex Browse Ltd and Origin Energy Ltd.

Australian Office

Julian Stephens – Exploration Manager PhD; BSc (Hons); MAIG 

Julian has over 11 years of experience in the exploration and mining sectors and economic-structural geology research fields. Between 2004 and 2006 Julian was employed as a senior structural/economic geology consultant for mining consultancy RSG Global. This work involved structural, alteration, paragenetic and mineralization targeting studies on precious and base metal systems worldwide, including world class orogenic and intrusion-related gold deposits in West Africa, Central Asia (Tien Shan) and Western Australia, porphyry copper-gold deposits in eastern Europe and western Canada and structurally controlled copper deposits in South Australia and southern Africa.

From 1999 to 2003 Julian completed his PhD at James Cook University, Queensland. His thesis was entitled “Structural, mechanical and P-T evolution of intrusion-related gold systems at Clear Creek and Dublin Gulch, Yukon, Canada”. Julian worked as a consulting geologist in western Canada between 2003 and 2004. From 1995 to 1999, Julian worked as a mine and exploration geologist for a number of junior and major companies in Australia. As project geologist for AMX Resources (1997-1999), Julian oversaw much of the exploration and resource definition drilling on the Golden Cities project, near Paddington, WA, resulting in discovery and delineation of a global resource of ~880,000oz Au.

Ian Cowden - Consulting Geologist BSc; FAusIMM; CPGeo; MAIG

Ian has over 30 years international and Australian experience in the exploration and mining industry, including more than 5 years targeting uranium. His expertise ranges from project generation and management of exploration programs through to discovery of ore bodies, feasibility studies and successful development and mining of a wide range of commodities. Ian has worked in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the South Pacific for major international mining companies and junior explorers, as well as holding directorships in a number of publicly listed companies.

David Tulberg - Database Manager

David has been involved in the Mineral and Exploration industries since 1992. A qualified geologist educated in Melbourne he moved to Western Australia taking up the position of exploration geologist with Herald Resources. His interests in computing and geology led him to specialize in exploration database administration and resource estimation. Before taking up the position of Marketing and Sales consultant with Datamine Australia he was employed with Homesake Australia at Lawlers Goldmine as Resource Geologist.

Malawi Office

Andries Kruger - Project Manager Africa BSc (Hons); MBA (SA)

Dries is Globe's project manager in Africa. With an Honours degree in geology from Johannesburg University and an MBA from University of the North West, South Africa, his significant career in all aspects of Mining project management makes his experience invaluable in the developments of the Company's operations. With an active career through exploration and mining, mineralology through to project manager, he has an outstanding regional understanding and has a wealth of senior management experience.

Pierre Chaponniere – Project Geologist Ecole Geologic - Masters

Pierre has over 3 years of experience in the mineral exploration industry. Between 2005 and 2007, Pierre was employed as an exploration geologist for mining consultancy RSG Global (now Coffey Mining). In Botswana at the Dukwe Copper Project (shear hosted deposit), Pierre was in charge of the project database and the logging of a diamond delineation program while in Senegal, at the Sabodala gold deposit (Birimian greenstone belt hosted deposit) he was contributing to the structural interpretation and core logging of a drilling program resulting in the estimation of a global resource of 2.74 Mt oz Au. Pierre graduated from the French Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie from Nancy in 2005 after an equivalent year at the Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa where he decided to get exposure to the mining industry. He completed a Honours project in relation to the targeting of platinum deposit of the Bushveld complex by remote sensing and GIS techniques.

Chrispine Lemani Ngwena - Exploration Geologist BEDs (Bachelor of Education Science)

Chrispine is a prolific geologist who has worked extensively in exploration and mineral sector for 7 years, targeting a range of minerals including coal, zinc, gold and uranium in various areas of Malawi.  In 2002 to 2003 he was involved in geological mapping of Mchinji areas of central part of Malawi targeting a geophysical anomaly.  In 2004, he was involved in Gold Exploration in the central part of Malawi of which he was the head of the exploration team having secured funds from the National Research Council for Malawi for the project whose proposal was developed by him.  In 2005 to 2006, he was a team leader for Coal Exploration Porject in the Northern part of Malawi, a project funded by the Malawi Government through the Geological Survey Department.  In 2006 he was part of the team involved in Zinc Exploration in the central part of Malawi (Lilongwe-Thuma area) for Saurus Resources Limited.  From 2007 to date, he had been involved in uranium, niobium, tantalum and zircon exploration in Malawi for Globe Metals & Mining.

Michael Schultz - Project Geologist B.Sc. M.Sc. University of Alberta

Michael has considerable geological and geophysical experience including diamond-prospecting in the Western Artic, supervising core logging, sampling, training, and quality control at the Ekati Diamond Mine for BHP Biliton and planned and completed exploration of uranium, preciuos and base metals in the Cordillera for Aurora Geosciences in the Yukon Territory. Currently completing his M.Sc where his teaching responsibilities included the lab portions of igneous and metamorphic petrology and the advanced field school taught in southeastern British Colombia.

Lisungu Banda - Accountant BCOM

Lisungu Banda is an Accountant by Profession with extensive experience in accountancy. She has vast experience in basic as well as other accounting fuctions and general administration duties. Lisungu worked for Macsteel since 1997 rising from the position of Management trainee to position of Company Accountant. Lisungu left Macsteel January 2008 to join Globe Metals & Mining where she currently holds the position of Accountant. Lisungu is currently studying CIMA professional Scheme. Lisungu is also a member of The Society of Accountants in Malawi (SOCAM) Board.

R.H. (“Bob”) Martin - Non-Executive Director Malawi Subsidiary Company

Bob is a Scottish qualified chartered accountant and charted taxation adviser who has practiced in Malawi since 1965. He is a founder and twice president of Malawi’s charter body and its associated academic, examining and regulatory organs. For the first half of his career he was a Principal with Deloitte then regional senior partner of PriceWaterhouse. For the past twenty years he has run a niche consultancy operating internationally in the fields of macro-economics, fiscal reform, central banking, privatization, restructurings and greenfield start-ups. A former director of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, he currently holds nonexecutive directorships in various sectors, including one commercial bank. His pursuits outside work are hill walking and endless reading. He is a member of the two leading clubs in the commercial centre, Blantyre, and a trustee of The Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi. His range of contacts is significant, having grown-up with the current decision makers in politics, the public service and business. He has many published works of a technical nature.
