With a maiden resource on its Livingstonia uranium project in Malawi out, Australian-based explorer Resource Star will focus on extensional drilling to grow it even further.

The company is earning up to 80% equity in the project after forming a joint venture with Globe Metals & Mining back in March and is sole funding exploration up to the completion of a feasibility study.

The maiden inferred resource has been estimated at 7.7 million tonnes averaging 270 parts per million uranium oxide for a contained 4.58 million pounds of uranium oxide, using a 15ppm cut-off grade.

Being a sandstone-hosted redox uranium deposit, it is similar to and hosted by an equivalent sedimentary basin to the nearby Paladin Energy-owned Kayelekera uranium mine, and Mantra Resources Mkuju River operation in neighbouring Tanzania.

Resource Star executive chairman Andrew Bell said the initial estimate was a significant milestone for the company, providing a strong platform for it to grow the resource base.

“The next step is to build on this initial success and implement a follow-up drilling program targeting expansion of this established area of mineralisation and defined resource,” he said.
