Australian resource play Globe Uranium has bolstered its African exploration portfolio by picking up a new prospecting licence in Malawi, north of the company’s existing Kanyika project.
The 653-square-kilometre licence in the Belele Dambo area of central western Malawi was acquired on a three-year term from the Malawian mines department. Globe said the new landholding is prospective for uranium, niobium, tantalum, zirconium and rare earth elements. In addition to the latest acquisition, Globe lays claim to three other Malawian projects – the Livingstonia and Nthalire uranium projects, and the Kanyika project, which is prospective for uranium and niobium (a little-known steel additive).
Perth-based Globe said airborne radiometric imagery at the Belele Dambo target has identified “a distinct uranium anomaly” and the company plans to commence exploration immediately. Globe managing director Mark Sumich said the explorer’s existing presence in the southern African nation left it well positioned to begin preliminary assessment at Belele Dambo.
