Exploration works by ADY Resources Ltd have commenced at salar (saline) del Rincón, and the company Globe Uranium has acquired uranium explorations rights. Both firms made the announcement during the Australian International Trade Fair, AMEC 2006 which took place some weeks ago in Perth.

Carlos Sorentino, Technical Affairs Manager of ADY Resources, informed that works for the exploration of salar del Rincón, located at puna salteña, have already started. Up to now, 19 km of mining tracks have been laid to specific points to start drilling and carry out the evaluation of the brine, rich in mineral elements.

The director stated that during the first stage, it is forecast that six wells will be drilled with recuperation of core samples to study in situ the porosity and permeability characteristics of the rock where the brine is contained. On the other hand, he said that tests carried out on the brines in Germany by K-Utec, were positive and lithium, magnesium and potassium salts were recuperated.

It is important to point out that salar del Ricón is situated in a strategic position, considering that is the converging point of Route 51 to Chile (part of the bi-oceanic corridor), and the C14 branch of the ‘General Belgrano’ Railway, the high power line to Chile and the gas pipeline to Puna. Actually, the completion of this work was an incentive for the Australian company to invest in the mining feasibility project.

On the other hand, the Australian company Globe Uranium announced that has acquired exploration rights in the salty area of the Oriental Ranges (Cordillera Oriental) and la Puna to search for uranium minerals. This company joins the tasks that the Canadian company Wealth Minerals Ltd and its subsidiary Madero Minerales SA have been carrying out.

‘We are satisfied that the works announced in Australia will be a reality, as well as the investments that these works will require at Salta. Our province was the only province of Argentina present at the Australian Trade Fair and we are already starting to see concrete results’ said Ricardo Alonso, Secretary of Mining and Energy Resources.
